With concerns about the problem of energy efficiency in street lighting, the Municipality of Nazaré decided to upgrade the street lighting on the avenue Avenida Vieira Guimarães by installing LED technology.

In order to give a touch of creativity and evolution in the design regarding the lighting in the main street of the municipality, the Municipal Company "Nazaré Qualifica", promoter of energy efficiency in the county, decided to use UrbanLED. A solution that corresponds aesthetically and energetically to the municipality's intentions and mechanically to the requirements of a typically saline environment.

The conventional street lighting luminaires, when located in areas under maritime influence, have short-term loss of its functionality as a result of corrosion of the material used, resulting in high maintenance costs.

UrbanLED responds effectively to Nazaré's characteristically aggressive and demanding environment because on its base and top modules it contains high quality cast aluminum, with a special zinc based paint on double-layer (primary + secondary), resistant to wearing by continuous exposure and extended periods of time in the harshest conditions. The heat sink consists of high-quality anodized extruded aluminum, and it is self closing, resistant to wearing by continuous exposure for extended periods of time in the harshest conditions. Beyond its fully aluminum body, all fixing systems, including screws and fixing clamps are totally in INOX and an additional DACROMET treatment is given on the components that are directly exposed to the weather (this ensures a long lifetime, with little wear). Finally, the protection guideline IP66/IK08 ensures a reduced deterioration of the entire system throughout its lifetime, which allows consideration of high maintenance factors (allows reduction of prevention and / or corrective interventions).
