EnergiaViva verified that on the market there are some pre-conceived opinions about the in LED technology in street lighting.
By embracing LED technology inextricably we dealt with some wrong dogmas in the evaluation of LED technology.
The improvement of the colour rendering indexes, emission in the optical spectrum favourable to the human eye of LED solutions, the "full cut off" of the UrbanLED luminaries, the effect of increased efficiency on the plan or a much lower maintenance factor of the LED luminaries lead to the fact that the assessment of factors such as emitted lumens or generated luxs cannot be compared directly between high pressure sodium vapor solutions and LED luminaries.
So, as legitimately and expected, we found in technical institutions two scenarios, one positive: the acceptance that assumptions are different and open heartedness to evaluate the performance of luminaires considering new technical concepts (some of them not yet included in the standards) and an unfavorable scenario: a direct comparison between conventional solutions and LED technologies without updating concepts.
Given the current scenario, EnergiaViva opted to show the potential of LED solutions in practice.
Effectively there is an assessment that does not suffer influences or distortions: the practical recognition of all users of street lighting (which is all of us) of the lighting conditions.
Various LED streets made by EnergiaViva and scattered all over the country and have shown that we can effectively replace conventional luminaries by the UrbanLED, where with less than 60% of consumption the lighting quality is still better.
The main purpose of street lighting is to create safe and comfortable conditions for public spaces. LED Street has been an excellent project to prove the benefits of this new technology.
In due course the project has been used in parallel with awareness campaigns, municipalities and EnergiaViva have revealed the contribution of LED Street in reducing consumption, financial savings and CO2 emission reduction.
The responsible posture of managers of public funds (such as municipal officials) recommends that you actually evaluate and validate solutions before using them in mass.
We invite the municipal officials to promote the project, to evaluate more efficient solutions, thereby fulfilling the interests of your citizens but also contributing to building a more sustainable environment.
The LED Street project will continue to exist, because deep down before any major project a first step is needed, and this will always be the correct way to assess the project in the municipalities.
EnergiaViva will continue, over the coming years, to validate the solution in various municipalities of the country. It's a long way, we know that, but it is also the correct way. We will continue to tread the path, for this we rely on the cooperation of Portuguese municipalities.
